In this exciting and inspirational workshop, students will explore painting techniques for obtaining

luminous qualities of light in their work. Capturing the beauty of light through studying temperatures of light and shadow, visual movement and value/color relationship will be demonstrated daily. The spontaneous characteristics of both watercolor and acrylic will be discovered while focusing on painting the still life, landscape and architecture.

 

As a Master in the American Impressionist Society, Carr will be emphasizing the "how to's" in achieving dynamic and impressionistic paintings using painterly and energetic brushwork. Massing and organizing darks and lights, importance of drawing and the value sketch, atmospheric and linear perspective and adding figures in a painting will also be covered.

 

Through individual instruction, observing daily demonstrations and critiques, students will develop a personal style in artistic approaches as well as gaining inspiration and enthusiasm for future paintings. Come, paint and enjoy!

About the Instructor:

imageBetty Carr received her MFA from San Jose State University and has taught painting and sculpture for many years. She has been selected as a Master Artist in the American Impressionist Society AISM signature. As a professional artist throughout her distinguished career she has traveled extensively gathering inspirational subject matter through her plein air painting experiences. Carr is the author of acclaimed instructional book, Seeing the Light: An Artist’s Guide, and her work featured in numerous books including  Creative Composition & Design,’The Painter’s Workshop;  Splash 5;  Painter’s Quick Reference; Flowers;  Landscapes,  and Flower Pocket Pal. Her work is featured in the recent book,” Sedona's Best Artists”.

 

Her painting, “Autumn Vineyards” won the presdigious award at the Sedona Plein Air Festival, Alcantara Vineyard's new Spring blend wine lable. She has been featured in Southwest Art,  Art of the West, Workshop Magazine-American Artist, Watercolor Magazine,  American Artist, International Artist and Art Talk, cover artist Southwest Art magazine, June issue 2010. Carr is a signature member of Knickerbocker Society of Artists and Arizona Plein Air Painters. Her Painting “Morning at Jerome”-  cover of a new book on Arizona and Arizona artists where she and her husband Howard's work will appear. Her painting "Tlaquepaque Courtyard" recently won Peolpe's Choice Award, and  painting " Tlaquepaque Chapel",  Merit Award, at The Palet, Sedona, Arizona, Curt Walters, Judge 2016.  She has received numerous juried awards as well as exhibited in major exhibitions and galleries throughout the country along with being the juror in many fine art exhibitions  Her paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor can be seen on her website BettyCarrFineArt.com.
