Art Center Sarasota, Development Associate 

Art Center Sarasota is a non-profit visual arts organization founded in 1926, providing the community with access to affordable art classes for adults and youth and four galleries of community and contemporary artworks free to the public. The center also produces cultural public programming and events.

 

The Development Associate will work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to meet the Art Center Sarasota’s fundraising goals by growing the donor base, membership, revenue from events and increasing awareness of the Center’s work and important community-based mission.


Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  •  Prior and successful nonprofit experience in development, events and donor relations

  •  Grant writing and grant management experience

  •  Special event planning and management

  •  Excellent writing skills

  • Creative, innovative thinker

  •  Self-directed with strong leadership skills

  •   Ability to work flexible hours for events

  •  Passion for the visual arts 

  •  Established community connections and networking skills  

  • Knowledge of federal and state rules with respect to gift acknowledgement/ planned giving/ and ethica fundraising affecting charities

 

Required Qualifications:

  •  Proven excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills

  •  At least two years of nonprofit Development experience

  •  Proficiency in the use of:

a)  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

b)  Databases/ donor management software

c)  Social Media

d)  Photoshop/InDesign (a plus)

  •  University degree in communications, marketing, or another relevant field

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in executing the development plan for the fiscal year which includes: annual appeal, membership, fundraising events, grants, sponsorships, and donor cultivation

  • Assist in managing timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner

  • Assist with the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan

  •  Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database

 

Grants

  • Research potential grant applications and manage the grants application calendar

  •  Prepare grant applications

  •  Create tracking mechanism for specific grant reporting

  •  Prepare and submit final reports

  •  Update the Giving Profile organizational information

 

Donor Stewardship and Prospecting

  • Assist in Identifying and developing corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities or partnerships

  •  Help to maintain relationships with current donors and develop new ones with prospective donors

  • Engage volunteers and Board in fund development projects

 

Manage Fund Development Budget and Reporting

  • Work with ED to develop and gain approval for an annual revenue and expenditure budget for the fund development program

  • Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, revenues and expenditures related to fundraising

  •  Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend adjustments as necessary

 

Promote the Organization and a Culture of Philanthropy

  • Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization and the Board
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
  • Participate in the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
