Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society

Transparent Exhibition

This is a juried exhibition of transparent aqueous media produced by the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society (FSWS).

In this exhibit, works will be in a format called "transparent watercolor." As the name implies, transparent watercolors allow light to shine through the watercolor paper; in turn, the white of the paper reflects that light back so that colors appear clean and crisp.

In conjunction with this exhibit, Art Center Sarasota and Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society are presenting “10 Legal Tips for Visual Artists” with Anne Dalton, a lawyer who specializes in the creative arts, Saturday, January 17, 1-4 p.m., at Art Center Sarasota. Admission is $10 at the door. This interactive workshop will review copyright protections, fair use, do’s and don'ts in collaborating with other artists and writers, how to prevent becoming a victim of fine print and cope with internet theft. Dalton served as senior attorney for Radio City Music Hall and ABC Network and currently represents a wide variety of artists, performers and organizations.

Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society is a non-profit art organization who’s members reside on the west coast of Florida.FSWS was formed in 1983 to foster the advancement of and promote excellence in the art of watercolor painting. The intent is to inform and educate through exhibitions, lectures and painting demonstrations as to the best work currently being done in watercolor.

FSWS usually has at least three juried exhibitions a year at various art centers and galleries in the region. These exhibitions can be either transparent watercolor or aqueous water based media like acrylics.

Transparent Watercolor is defined as a painting executed in traditional watercolor paints, namely water-resoluble transparent medium without the addition of opaque white pigment, the white of the paper being the only white, on traditional watercolor paper, not Yupo, unvarnished, matted, and framed under Plexiglas.
